Innovation at Google

googleinnovation Innovation at Google

I’ve just finished watching Patrick Colepand QCon Keynote about innovation and thought I would share it with everyone interested by innovation. In 40 minutes you will learn about the first three principles of the eXtreme innovation approach based on the Pretotyping Manifesto: Innovators Beat Ideas, Pretotypes Beat Productypes, and Data Beats Opinion. Excellent keynote with some great and practical ideas! As always Patrick delivers!

The keynote video and slides can be found here.

AND this post gives me the opportunity to show you my last low-tech gadget: The Boogie Board. Can’t surf with it but it can grab some thoughts I might have during the day icon smile Innovation at Google Nah, it’s not an iPad. Heck, I can’t even connect this thing to my Mac! And this is why it is so special icon smile Innovation at Google And my kids can borrow it … Sometime.

The Cloud Performance Summit was a HUGE success !

109703.strip The Cloud Performance Summit was a HUGE success !

Well, it looks like my prediction was correct. The Cloud Performance Summit was the place to be yesterday in Santa Clara ! It looks like Adrian Cockcroft, Alistair Croll, Tom Lounibos, Imad Mouline and others put up quite a show ! A bit frustrating for all of us, only able to “follow” the action on Twitter. Better than nothing I guess. I’ve gathered the best tweets from the event.

More action the next few days during Cloud Connect ! If you’re at the event, don’t hesitate to come by booth #515 as we offer a free performance testing of your website!

To answer Tal Broda: “Who’s #winning at the performance summit in #ccevent?” I think it’s safe to say that the whole industry is winning by having these kind of events. Having the best experts in the same room to discuss, share, confront their views can only be seen as a positive step toward better performing application, whether they run in the cloud or not. Or maybe @cloudsheen is winning … icon smile The Cloud Performance Summit was a HUGE success !

A week in the Cloud ! EuroCloud + Innovation Cloud Summit. Let’s meet !

eurocloud A week in the Cloud ! EuroCloud + Innovation Cloud Summit. Lets meet !
Next week should be an interesting one! First, I’ll be at the “Etats Generaux du Cloud” which is the only French event dedicated to SaaS and Cloud Computing. Some interesting sessions around growing cloud business in France, financial aspect, new channels development fit for the Cloud etc. I will have the opportunity to see a keynote from Mr Eric Besson who is Minister of Industry, Energy and the Digital economy (under the Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry, Christine Lagarde). A couple of months, he’s launched some substantial initiative for the innovation in France ie. Tax Break and help from the government. Hopefully he’ll have some interesting news for us. I’m not too sure if he will covers his view on Net Neutrality as they are (for good reasons) controversial (he has called for an end to Net Neutrality, giving telecommunication operators the possibility to sell prioritized access to the network)

Then on Thursday and Friday, I’ll be with Tom Lounibos, CEO of SOASTA (My boss but more importantly someone who wants to revolutionize Software Testing! Nothing less ! Hell yeah!), at the Innovation Cloud Summit where we’ll have the opportunity to present SOASTA’s products and services to French CIOs, VARs, SIs who are interested to invest in Cloud Computing technologies. This is an excellent initiative organized by the Paris Region Economic Development Agency. Should be fun to meet up with people from these Startup as well!

innovationcloudsummit A week in the Cloud ! EuroCloud + Innovation Cloud Summit. Lets meet !

These 2 events should keep me very busy but I’m always open to a good informal discussion in the evening! I’ll be staying downtown Paris so I’m very flexible. How about we meet after EuroCloud in the evening? Send me an email at fred[at]fredberinger[dot]com. Hope to see you there !

Introduction to Cloud Testing

Cloud Testing is a very hot topic right now within the software testing industry but I’m still reading questions such as: “Is it testing from the Cloud? In the Cloud? Is it testing the Cloud?” So I thought I would give a very short introduction to Cloud Testing so we’re all on the same page. This is the first lightning talks related to Cloud Testing. Enjoy!

Why you should join the Cloud Performance Summit

image Why you should join the Cloud Performance Summit

Cloud Computing brings many promises to the Enterprise: Elasticity and scalability, lower costs, accessibility, agility etc. But these new virtual environments brings their load of challenges due to the almost infinite resources they make available:

  • Application architectures need to reinvent themselves to take advantage of the whole cloud computing ecosystem.
  • Data manipulation and aggregation is no longer limited by the amount of CPU power you have available but how do you handle such amount of data? Do we need new data models and algorithm?
  • How do we ensure application perform under these new environments? How do you monitor your performance when dealing with multi-vendors environments?
  • Do clouds meet customer expectation? What does it mean for SLAs?

Managing a lab for performance testing … Feel the pain !

server room Managing a lab for performance testing ... Feel the pain !

I’ve always wanted to write a post about an important aspect of performance testing: Budgeting your hardware environment for Performance Testing. While managing a QA organization at Experian, it’s been one of the least enjoyable part of my job. Managing and growing people, sure ! Anytime ! Managing a large hardware environment? mmm .. Not so much. But it’s necessary to build it and manage it seriously if you want to run proper performance testing. The fact that I had to manage a large hardware budget during an economic downturn was actually a good thing as I had to be creative to find alternative and I became pretty damn good at rolling on the floor to get what I need from our finance guy … icon wink Managing a lab for performance testing ...
